MARKOVICE Postrelmov
Folklore group Markovice was found in 1953, so that it already has celebrated its fiftieth. Group was originally founded as dance group Mír (Peace) working from 1948 at United Labour Centre in Postřelmov. At the start of their activity, members were doing folklore from all-accessible regions of Bohemia, Moravia and Slovakia, as it was fashion in those years. In the late sixtieth, the dance part separated from chorus, and by denizen’s recommendation it adopted name from near hill -
Markovice.
Thereby started slightly more difficult, but also more exciting work at finding of theirs own way. Members of Markovice, in cooperation with Homeland Museum Šumperk, started to search folklore materials in the Northern Haná region, where their home is.
They were visiting surrounding villages and talking with residents, they were writing or recording all, what did grandmas and granddads remember from their youth, they were collecting photos, parts of clothes, craftsman’s produces, just everything, what they were willing give to from their family collections. Thanks to their efforts, members has managed to work up a lot of folk crafts, songs, dances, and games, to restore folk traditions and customs of people living there long time ago. Through the years this material became to be a topic of folklore group Markovice activity.
The part of group’s research was also the reconstruction of villagers’ wears from the end of 19th century in festive and work form. So Museum in Šumperk obtained number of beautifully needleworked parts of man’s, women’s and child’s costumes and on the basis of this, added by knowledges from various communal and family chronicles, and in close cooperation with Museum specialists, group costumes from above mentioned region, incl. its decoration, were born …
All the time Markovice successfully represent its region in many important actions at home and also abroad and despite of change of economical conditions in 1990, they are still trying realize their mission – keep folk culture abroad, keep treasure, which our ancestry has passed on for next generation.
